According to data from the Register of Inhabitants published by the INE, today more than 10,000 people with the nationality of one of the former Soviet republics (USSR) live in Tenerife.

Of these 10,000 “ex-Soviet”, the largest community corresponds to the Russians, (about 40% of the total), followed by Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Moldavians, Armenians, Belarusians, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, Kazakhs and Georgians. In addition, according to the Survey of Tourist Movements in Frontiers (Frontur), every year Tenerife receives more than 150,000 Russian-speaking tourists. Most of them live in their own world and are not connected to local life, due to language difficulties they do not read Spanish press or watch Spanish television. They look for information in their own language and this is exactly what we provide.

“Novosti Tenerife” is the only Russian-language newspaper available in the Canary Islands. Having been published for more than 3 years, during which time it was chosen by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Madrid as the best Russian language newspaper in Spain and was represented in the media forum, which took place in St.Petersburg in June 2015.

Russian tourism in Tenerife

Russian tourism to Spain, which fell in 2015, is recovering by leaps and bounds since 2016, according to two of the main operators, in the Spanish market as well as the Russian association of tour operators.

Since the months of January and February 2016 there was a significant upturn in the expected air capacity between Russia and Spanish destinations. The Russian Association of Tour Operators has stated that Russian tourists returned to Spain due to problems of competing destinations. The suspension of all flights from Russia to Egypt after the attack on a Russian passenger plane and the ban on tour operators selling tourist packages to the Arab country has reactivated the interest of Russian tourists in the Canary Islands.

The print run for Novosti is 10,000 per month (1 edition per month) which is distributed free and strategically at some 400 distribution / pick up points such as coastal tourist zones, Commercial Centres, Medical Centres, Restaurants, Stores, Estate Agents, Residential hotels & Apart hotel resorts, and many more important points around the island. Novosti offers transparency with their print run details to their customers as they use an audit company that controls and certifies said print run of 10,000 per month.
